Stop The Scammers: How To Protect. Yourself and Your Loved Ones.

Scammers target good people every day, and seniors are often singled out because they're seen as more trusting. Millions of dollars are lost to fraud each year and anyone can become a victim. The good news: knowledge is your best defense. 

In this practical, easy-to-follow presentation, attendees will learn how today's most common scams work, how to spot the warning signs, and exactly what to do if they or someone they love is targeted. Real-life examples will show how phone calls, emails, pop-ups and social media messages are used to create panic and pressure people into sending money. 

Attendees will learn: 

• The most common scams targeting seniors, including phone, grandparent, romance, tech support, and lottery scams 

• Red flags to watch for: urgency, secrecy and requests for gift cards or wire transfers 

• Simple ways to protect passwords and personal information online 

• What to do and who to call if you've been scammed 

When in doubt, slow down and talk it out. 

Lompoc Police Sergeant Scott Morgan currently serves as the Sergeant in charge of the Community Services Section, where he oversees a variety of responsibilities, including community outreach and engagement. 

Sgt. Morgan has served with the Lompoc Police Department for more than 22 years. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of assignments, including School Resource Officer (SRO), Field Training Officer (FTO), Major Crimes Detective, Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) member and Sergeant, and Patrol Sergeant. 

His extensive experience in both investigative and patrol assignments has provided him with a broad range of knowledge and experience in law enforcement and community service.
